As far as I was concerned I sincerely believed that since the actions by the Civil rights movement and the passing of the “Civil Rights Act of 1964“ which made it illegal to segregate in a persons place of work, School,Church or home, plus banning the practice of discrimination when it came to renting or buying a house, that America had made great strides to comply. Apparently according to the news today I am wrong.
March on Washington
Everyone over the age of 40 remembers the "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom" in the 60‘s and everyone can remember the “I have a dream speech” made by Martin Luther King at the end of that march. Sure we know have a black American President so outwardly it does look like America has come to its senses. Take a deeper look though and you soon realize things are not much better in mainstream America.
What is Bigotry
According to Wikipedia "'Bigotry' is the state of mind of a "bigot", a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance"
Is anyone to blame
I believe that we all are, but when you get a Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, one who should have more sense, stand up and make a speech to Jewish donors stating that "their culture is part of what has allowed them to be more economically successful than the Palestinians". Something is drastically wrong. This has obviously outraged the Palestinians calling his remarks as “both racist and out of touch”
Bigotry in the Church
What happened to the teachings of “love thy neighbour” as the church seems to be always teaching. This has now apparently gone out the window because only last week, a young couple, wishing to exchange their vows at a church they regularly attended, the “C” were turned away by the Pastor telling them that "a small amount of people did not want them to be married there).
I guess I was wrong at the beginning of this report when I stated that we had made great strides to comply with Racial Segregation and Bigotry around the world. We have apparently not.

There is still bigotry in the USA (and many other countries) but it is NOT bigotted to say that the culture of a group gives them an advantage. Culture is a set of values and how those are embodied in daily life, and different groups DO have different sets of values. Some groups DO value hard work more than others, to their advantage. What makes that different from racism is recognising that cultures change, groups can change themselves, and people can rise above their culture. When one applies stereotypes, or even worse one claims that characteristics are fixed because of one's race and the genetics of that race, THEN it is racism. It's a fine line, but an important one.
Great article. Thanks for the share
great share!
I know what you mean I get so angry and upset when small minded bigots come out with such rubbish, just when you think the world has moved on and let go of rediculous prejudice, some thing happens that makes me wonder other wise too.
