Best Ways to Drive Long Term Traffic

I often felt this question-how do i get a long term traffic to my articles?
I saw lot of marketing guru's say that the best way to get traffic to your contents is to promote them online.That's true.

But they have not mention that this traffic is a short term or long term.When i started writing online,i also used this formula to get traffic to my articles.i have over 1000 friends on facebook and i started to promote my articles there.And it works also!

I get over 5000 views to my 300+ articles in a week.Then i think this is the write formula and started writing more articles and promote them on facebook.

But after some day i saw that my older articles did not recieving to many views from there compared to my newer articles and that prompts me to write theis column.

I have researched online about this topic and find some interesting thoughts.I also share this problem of mine with other successful writers and bloggers.After discussing with them i came to a conclusion.

According to the those people the best way to get long term traffic is to submit the articles into article directories and also social bookmarking services wth some proper and optimized keywords so that the search engines can crwal them instantly.

Now i have submitted some of my articles to ezine and articlebase and after some days the views on those articles are started increasing.

Now i decided to create a list of high pagerank article directories and social bookmarking sites that other successful writers are using currently and they also allow do-follow backlinks as well.
