Benefits of a diesel Engine

If you are owner of any vehicle which is powered by diesel or if you have ever owned a diesel powered vehicle in past, you surely praise the qualities provided to you by these engines. Some of the features of a diesel powered vehicle are better fuel economy, easier maintenance, increased torque etc.

But, some of the motorists have complaints regarding the weak power of this engine, particularly at the time of acceleration from a complete halt. Probably, you might not be aware of the fact that it is possible to tweak a diesel engine in order to provide more power without increasing its fuel consumption.

As against the mixture of air and fuel needed by the gas engines, air compression is used by the diesel engines for creating compression. Due to this feature, there is no need of a spark plug for the diesel engines and hence their tuning up is not required.

The fuel density of diesel is very high as compared to the gas. It results in the increase of fuel economy by about 20-30%, if compared to the vehicles powered by gas.

Since, the diesel engines have less number of parts than the gasoline powered engine, so, they have less maintenance cost. Also, the life span of diesel engines is far more than the gasoline powered engines.

If you look for torque to pull a boat or similar equipment, then there is no doubt about the benefit of using a diesel engine. It is true that the diesel engines are slower, especially while accelerating for a full stop, but, they are the best choice if you have to climb the hills or to cross bridges.

If the trucks are considered, then diesel is usually ahead of the gas engines with regard to miles per gallon as well as the performance. There is no doubt that the diesel trucks have more miles per gallon. Also, these days, the price of diesel is cheaper than the gas and due the fact that the gas prices keep on increasing continuously, the diesel will be dominating for a long time ahead.
