Traveller from realms beyond
The borders of the kingdom,
He brings tales of greatness and stories of love
For the people at the feats.
Within the word-cloth that he weaves
Are bits of news about the wider world,
Clothed in melodies, hidden in tunes,
The listeners sit enthralled by the stories he tells,
Of gods and heroes and poor lovers lost
To death, their passions unfulfilled.
The artistry of music paired with words,
Together, they create a work of art.
And in an age where travel is quite hard,
When most never leave their own hometowns,
The bard's words are a most rare glimpse,
Into a world that they will never see.
For those of noble birth, the bard's tales
Offer a flight of fancy, a diversion,
From the drudgery of life
(And perhaps some gossip, too).
Attend and listen to the bard's new tale,
Of the knight who ventured forth, and rode to war.
Once there, he distinguished himself from his peers,
Many of the foe fell to his blade,
And so, when the battle was done,
He returned home,
And was granted land and title by his king.
See, now, the glint in the young squire's eye?
Perhap he plans to strive for the same thing.
