The Aztec Civilization in Latin America

The Aztecs are the ethnic groups who speak the Nahuatl language.They flourish in the large part of Mesoamerica in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. These period is referred as the late post-classic period in Mesoamerican chronology.

The term”Aztecs” oftentimes exclusively referred to the Mexican people of “Tenochtitlan”. It is situated on an Island ain Lake Texcoco.The term “Aztecs” may also includes the inhabitants of Acolhuas of Texcoco and Tepanes of Tlacopan. These two city states are allied of Tenochtitlan.

They formed the Aztec triple alliance known as the “Aztec Empire”It may also referred to all the various city states and it people,that share large parts of ethnic history,cultural traits and language with the Mexica, Acolhua and Tepanecs.

The core of Aztec civilization was located at the Valley of Mexico. In this place the capital of the Aztec empire, the city of Tenochtitlan,built in the raised islets in lake Texcoco.The Aztec empire was able to expand its political domination far beyond the entire Valley of Mexico throughout Mesoamerica.

The Aztec civilization was able to developed architectural and artistic skills and accomplishments. They produce a rich and complex mythological religious beliefs and traditions.The name Aztec comes from the Nahuatl word “aztecha” this word is a plural of AztecatlAztlan.

According to myth, there are seven tribes that lives in Aztlan. They are under the rule of a powerful elite. In order to seek new lands, these seven tribes fled from Aztlan. The last tribe who fled were the Mexicas.After they leave Aztlan, their God Huitzilopochtli ordered them to never called themselves as Azteca (azteca is the name of their former master).Instead they call them selves as Mexica.

There are also interpretation the the name Mexico or Mexican probably came from Mexitl or mexi, a secret name for deity.
