Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes Episode 47 Winter Soldier Review
This review contains spoilers for Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes Episode 47 the Winter Soldier from Marvel Animation.
A flashback to World War II, leads to the Winter Soldier walking around a HYDRA Base, but a sleeper robot is activated.
Captain America goes to get answers from Red Skull as he is imprisoned about Winter Soldier. Skull comments about prisoners being treated better than most American citizens and says that he might not want the answers about the Winter Soldier. The sleeper robot attacks which the Avengers have to deal with and Red Skull escapes from his containment.
Captain America continues his quest for answers, with Nick Fury, who informs him that the Winter Soldier is a heartless soldier and a mercenary, with no honor who has been around for decades. As two and two are put together with the identity of Winter Soldier, Captain America and Nick Fury go to seek him out as the Avengers deal with the sleeper robots.
Captain America gets in a scuffle with Winter Soldier, as it reveals that he is his former partner, Bucky, who was thought dead. Winter Soldier was brainwashed by Red Skull and his fellow HYDRA agents, being frozen and unfrozen to be a mercenary. Red Skull meanwhile activates a giant robot of his likeness and prepares to destroy Washington D.C.
Captain America and Winter Soldier join forces, almost like old times, as they manage to engage Red Skull, but Red Skull traps him. He plans to subdue Captain America and use him like a tool like Winter Soldier, which sets him off. They manage to disable the giant sleeper robot and Red Skull is taken down, with it going better than the last time.
Winter Soldier leaves to find himself as Captain America says that he hopes he's finding what he wants.
A pretty good episode all things considered and just showing the absolute sadism of the Red Skull. Red Skull's little comment about prisoners being treated better than most American citizens, getting three square meals a day, really seemed harsh. But in the same way, sadly true. Don't you have it when the evil villains have a point?
Winter Soldier is an interesting character and he kind of grew up with the world changing while Captain America was lost in time for nearly sixty years. Obviously they manage to work together but things are not the exact same between them ever again.
Red Skull using his enemy as a tool was rather true. I mean, he could kill Captain America but what better to make him suffer than to use him as a puppet. His plan to destroy Washington was less cerebral.
You would have expected some of the great action from the Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes with the giant robot fight. But Red Skull was just evil and a complete monster in many ways. His charm is that he has no charm and no redeemable qualities.
