My daughter was weaned a couple of months ago which was a rough week to say the least, although I definitely enjoyed the temporary boost in my bust size. So to get my daughter to sleep I started walking her instead, I tried rocking her in her glider but she would rouse every time I even sat down.
That first night I got an hour of sleep on the couch with her resting on my chest and I probably walked 3 kms. Two months later I am still walking her to bed for nap and bedtime and getting her to fall asleep is only half the battle, now I have to get her into her crib. For some reason she would wake every time I even started to put her in her crib so I tried to trick the sleeping baby by putting her on the couch or bed the same way I would put her in her crib but that baby wouldn’t be fooled she would sleep on any surface but she was not going in her crib. After about the 8th attempt I would get her in her crib, I stood on my tippytoes and held her as close to my body as possible all while humming her a lullaby then slowly but surely I would pull my arm out. Ah success I celebrated quietly as I backed out of her room but before I even get to the door she is crying… this baby has the senses of a ninja!
So I start the process all over again… Can I say that I found some magical solution? Heck No! I’m a little ashamed to admit I just gave up and now the baby and I are sleeping on a mattress on the floor so she would stop waking throughout the night but at least I am getting some sleep and my thighs have never looked so amazing!
When I wrote the Art of Getting the Baby to Bed the title may have been misleading so although I am no expert on getting a baby to sleep as I am only a mother of one but here are the tricks I use to get my daughter to fall asleep perhaps they will work for you.
