Armadillo is a little mammal with a bony covering that is like Armour. There are ten different kinds of Armadillos living in the regions from southern United States to Southern South America. The upper parts of Armadillos are covered with bony shells, which look like plates. They protect the armadillo in times of Danger.
There is a strange feature in the armadillo. It has strong Armour like coat but it has soft teeth. As a result of having soft teeth, the armadillos have to eat soft food like Ants, termites, larva, grubs and bugs. As this food is found in leaves and soft ground, it has to dig to get it's food. Though it has been given soft teeth by nature, it's claws are long and strong and forearms, very powerful. Armadillo is a timid animal. An armadillo escapes from it's enemies by digging or running away.
These are also used in the study of Leprosy. A nice fact is that the Armadillo's have poor eyesight, but nonetheless they use their elevated power of smell to hunt. They make burrows with there own claws and in such a way that only they can fit in the burrow.
Thus, Armadillo's are not only prominent in food web, but they are used in medical studies too.
