April Fool ……

Hey today is 1st April and its April Fool’s Day. This date had completely skipped my mind when suddenly my eyes fell on the desktop calendar and it struck. This made me wonder that amidst running, working 10 long hours, managing home etc we are slowly forgetting the dates which we used to look forward from, say, a week or so. 1st April was the most awaited for us in the school days as we made stupid fools out of our class mates. At times there was silly planning as well. I still remember during my college days I was made a complete fool out of a serious issue. The person who ends up being the FOOL of the day feels angry, embarrassed and what not but the fooling party has the last laugh. But yes, after years, when you remember those incidents it just gives a smile on your face. That is why these dates are so important in life; it leaves behind some memorable moments.
As Iam writing this its just coming to me that how this day came into being, as in I never really bothered to know the history behind this day. There must be something which has made April 1st a remembered date. Lets Google it out. Ok... so there is not one particular cause of this day and I came to know that this day is a holiday in some European town. In old times citizens of the European towns celebrated a week long New Year starting March 25th and ending April 1st. So these people were the centre of making fun by people celebrating New Year on January 1st. It is also written that 32 days from March was misunderstood as 32 days in March which actually is not. This shows that whatever maybe the origin, it is the following up or carrying forward the tradition that matters. Some incidents go back way along the history and still we celebrate many festivals, dates across religions to respect them and to continue what has been passed on by our noble ancestors. It also shows that however forward we may be today, whatever technologies we may be surrounded in we can never forget certain traditions which are age old. We always put down the label ‘GENERATION GAP’ whenever we cannot fit our elders but still we follow what was taught by them. That is the irony of this world and the nature or psychological minds of this generation.
