American Women Are Having Fewer Babies

A recent study conducted in the United States showed that there has been a significant drop in birth rates among American women in the two years up to the year 2009. According to the reports, the shocking birth rate drop is mainly among women under the age of 40 years.

It was revealed that the birth rate among women in this age group dropped as much as 4% – this is believed to be the largest birth rate drop America has seen in over three decades. Can you believe that? One cannot help but wonder what contributed to the sharp drop in the birth rate.
According to the statistics published by the National Center for Health Statistics, in 2007 the United States saw the birth of 4,316,233 babies. And by the year 2009 the births dropped by 4% to a total of 4,131,019 babies being born.

Statistics are showing that the decline in birth rate is still persisting and might be a trend that will keep on happening in the United States. According to the published reports, the western and southern states of America in particular are the places that have experienced are experiencing the largest drop in birth rates.
The reports indicate that not only have there been significant falls in birth rates among American women but also there have been massive drops in fertility rates too. For those who might not get the meaning of what fertility rates mean, it is simply the number of babies or children that women between the ages of 15 and 44 have.

The study went into detail to report on the fertility rates for the various races in America. For example fertility rates among white American women dropped by 3%, fertility rates for Hispanic women also fell by a massive 9%.
So what could really be the cause of this major fall in birth rates in the United States?
Most experts believe that the reason this trend is ongoing will keep going on is because of the present harsh economic conditions that are sweeping through the entire United States.
