A list of all the American States and the American state capitals in one place, an ideal quick and easy reference guide.

At school I didn't have much interest in geography, although I attended the classes, I only did the absolute bare minimum amount of work expected of me, just enough in order to get reasonable grades. When I left school I found myself not knowing anymore about the subject then when I first  started studying it, and that was fine by me then, I never thought I was going to use it anyway.

However as my life rolled on and I decided that I not only just wanted to become a writer, I became  absolutely adamant that I could make it happen. And that was not all that I wanted either, I also wanted to travel the world and I wanted to learn about our planet. Only then did I realize that I would have to study geography a little in the process.

Initially the prospect wasn't an inviting one but being the kind of person that I am, I embraced the challenge and got to it. And I am so glad that I did. Because some years later and after many hours of typing and researching I am now a writer, and furthermore I have found a new respect and even discovered a sense of enjoyment from the many branches of geography and what they have had to offer along the way.

One of them being place names and locations. Countries, counties, states and capitals I love learning about them, I'm on my own personal mission to discover and remember as many as I can. This is going to be my first article in a series, and what better place to start then the good old U S of A.

Before I did my research I only knew Atlanta Georgia, Oklahoma city Oklahoma, Nashville Tennessee and Boston Massachusetts. (I know pretty embarrassing right) what was worse then that was that I thought the capital of Florida was Orlando and that the capital of Texas was Houston! (feel free to point and laugh).

Still I have well and truly made up for my ignorance by learning all of them properly and by sharing my newly acquired knowledge with you in this article, I hope it will be as enlightening for you as it was for me.

I was particularly intrigued by Pierre, Olympia, Salem and Raleigh. I also think providence is a beautiful name for a location, that was my favorite. Springfield reminded me of the Simpson's, straight away and the different mix of languages in there are similarly fascinating like Bismarck, baton rouge and Boise.

I had not heard of little rock, Juneau, Montpelier or Lansing before so these I found interesting too. In fact I will probably end up writing about the origins of some of these places, because I have been so intrigued by just the names alone, like Cheyenne for instance, that has to have a strong native American association behind it......

Wow very good article. That is very informative for all of us who do not live in USA. Just like you, when I read Springfield I think on Simpson's :) I am also surprised with some main city's. But you know, America is big so it is hard to remember all that :) Now we have your article and we are save, when we need some information :) Thanks for share.

Thank-you MISTERDD, I am no longer unfamiliar with the US states and I am glad that you found my article useful too. :)
