1. Give Priority to Sleep :

A good night's sleep prepares you for the next day's battle. If you have inadequate sleep on a regular basis, your chances of acquiring multiple medical problems like obesity, diabetes and heart disease are very real. The amount of sleep that a person needs differs from individual to individual. And sleep duration differs at different periods of life. The thumb rule for the right amount of sleep is, "as much as your body needs" at that point in time. To be on the safe side, let your body catch up for any deficit in sleep with a good restful sleep at least once a week.

2. A Good Breakfast, a Great Day Ahead :

Start the day with a nourishing breakfast as the body gets prepared to start the digestive process in right earnest. Though our body had a long rest during the night, our metabolism is active all the time. And by skipping the day's first meal, the whole process of our body's functioning is thrown into disarray. Moreover, lack of concentration will pursue you throughout the day and obesity is a direct spin off of a missed breakfast. A good breakfast ensures that you have a great day at home and in the workplace.

3. Eating Right Tells Your Score :

The stress and strain of the day's schedule should not distract you from eating the right food. Make it a routine to have a fruit, a glass of milk, some nuts and dried fruits every single day, be it a snack or part of your main meal. The lunch should ideally have atleast two cups of vegetable. Eating light is as important as eating right. If you feel full, there is no point in stuffing yourself with more food. Skipping dinner in case you had a heavy lunch, and having a glass of milk before bed time is the right way to go.

4. Keep Moving All Day :

Don't wait till you hit the gym to start your exercise. As far as possible avoid taking the elevator. Park your vehicle a few blocks before your workplace and walk the remaining distance. Make it a point to increase the duration of your walk with each passing day. Every step that you take will ensure a fit and robust constitution that will lengthen your life-span.

5. Be Tuned to Your Body :

Be aware of how your body feels. Whenever you feel the need to sleep or eat more, do so without any inhibitions. It is your body and you are the one who knows what is best for your body. Learn to read your internal clock and not be ruled by the external clock. Sleeping and relaxing must enhance your overall health and not be dictated by the society norms.

6. Be Focussed on Your Health :

Be health conscious and give importance to everything that promotes your health. Do not rely on the weighing machine to monitor your health. Your weight is only one aspect of your health portfolio. Doing yoga and meditation daily gives your mind and body the serenity to cope with the turmoils of daily living.

The above said six steps are simple to follow and gives your day the ideal tonic to enjoy life to the fullest. And remember, the earlier you start, the better will be your chances of lasting success.
